The UA Board of Trustees permitted the division in February 2022. Interim Division Director Thomas Winokur, M.D., will lead the division as an ongoing recruiting effort for a everlasting director takes place. Winokur says the creation of the division stands to assist emphasize our departmental and institutional dedication to ladies’s well being.
“The institution of this division serves to unify the subspecialties we’ve targeted on in ladies’s well being in pathology as a area—obstetrics/gynecology, breast, perinatal—and convey them below one umbrella,” Winokur mentioned.
The first targets for the division are to assist in recruiting gifted people to UAB to deal with ladies’s well being, to work with UAB Drugs to boost diagnostic and molecular testing in areas impacting ladies’s well being, and to construct a analysis portfolio in these areas.
